The Expectant Tree

This here is my tree post-Christmas celebration.  No gifts left under it, still presenting the same old raggedy but meaningful ornaments and with an ordinary velvet red skirt embracing the stand.

The spot where it stands usually is a very busy one.  Two boxes of my grandbabies' toys usually sit there along with their kiddie table and chairs.  It is usually a messy spot with toys hanging out and scattered over the floor, maybe even some cookies.  On the wall, there used to be a large frame capturing a portrait moment of my wedding day 26 years ago.  This corner of my living room represented life, life as it used to be.

Now it looks so tidy, simple or plain, and even a bit bare.  The lights are nice but it still seems empty.  I've been staring at it for some time now while sitting here on my couch and suddenly I don't see it that way.  To me it's expectant.  It's made room for new and beautiful life.  It's symbolic of what's to come.  This tree has its arms wide open.  It's saying, "Bring it on.  Forget the old and receive the new."  Look, do you see it?

Happily so, the toy boxes will go back to their usual corner soon.  The kiddie table and chairs too.  I'll move the book crate and comfy toddler elephant pillow there too.  The tree and ornaments will get packed up and stored away for next year.  Sadly, the portrait has come down for good.

But this moment, right now, speaks to me.  "Look here, I am preparing a new season for you, better than you could ever imagine.  It may seem barren but I'm just making room for the abundance of life and beauty that's to come and fill it up.  Don't be afraid to let go.  I'll hold your hand into your future.  Be expectant and hopeful!  I am with you!  Forever!"

In all honesty, this was not the way I imagined 2018 to end.  I mean that...with joy, hope, and expectancy in my heart.  Happy New Year!   ❤
